One in a series of seven, 40" x 40" images titled Read Right, commissioned by Maxtor Corporation for placement in their headquarters. The image is a lenticular design created from disassembled hard drive parts and was printed using the Mutoh Falcon II indoor commercial printer at 1440 x 1440 dpi. The visual affect of the image animates as you walk past it, similar to the example on the right.
Bonny Lhotka is a preeminent digital and lenticular artist who works out of her high tech studio in Boulder, CO. Throughout her impressive career Bonny has been commissioned by high profile industrial, commercial and civic organizations to develop one-of-a-kind art pieces. Constantly developing new techniques and pushing the envelope of what is possible with digital print resolution, image alignment and media substrates, one thing is for sure, when it comes to large format printing, Bonny depends on extreme quality, durability and flexibility from her Mutoh Falcon II indoor commercial printer.
"I have worked with several brands of large format printers and the Mutoh Falcon II is by far my favorite," says Bonny. "Mutoh has been a first class company to work with and the people and service are exemplary. The product capability is the primary reason I chose Mutoh. I started with the original Falcon printer and moved to the Falcon II when it became available. I have absolutely abused the machine and it has never let me down. The Falcon II has proven to be fast, high-quality, flexible and extremely reliable. Combined with Mutoh inks I never worry about color shift or leaving the printer running unattended, even if I am printing on silk or polygloss film. In the year and a half I have been printing with the Falcon II I have never experienced a clogged head or had a color drop out. Because of Mutoh's high quality motion control and dynamic variable dot imaging capabilities I am able to place ink droplets precisely where they need to be. This might sound a bit picky to some people, but when I am creating a lenticular design, it is the difference between in-focus and out-of-focus."
"I also rely heavily on Mutoh's ISIS print manager and Thunderbird print server. They are easy to use and all of the color profiles I need are right there. I often work with files that are up to two gigs in size. With the Thunderbird I just send it to print and it RIPs and prints the job, freeing up my workstation for something else. I love it."
