History
Mutoh Industries Ltd. was founded in Japan in 1952 to supply drafting machines
to the architectural and engineering industries. As a pioneer in the manufacturing
and marketing of manual drafting equipment, Mutoh achieved national and international
prominence, having exported drafting machines to more than 60 countries worldwide.
Mutoh America was established in 1963 as the distribution conduit to the U.S.
market.
The PC CAD revolution in the mid-1980s led Mutoh America to explore new opportunities,
which included pen/pencil plotting technology. Mutohs plotters quickly
became recognized as the fastest, most accurate and reliable output devices
available for the architectural and CAD/CAM industries. Consequently, the
plotters earned numerous industry awards for their overall quality, value
and performance leadership.
In the past decade, Mutoh America has focused its attention on graphics output,
specifically the market and applications associated with large format inkjet
printing and computer-aided sign making (CAS) equipment. Mutoh America was
the first to introduce high speed vinyl cutting plotters and 1440 dpi large
format printers to North America. Through strategic OEM relationships, these
products have gained dominance in the marketplace.
