When printing 30" material on my VJ1204 (48" printer) the printhead still moves the entire 48" width of the printer (not prints but just moves beyond the media width) I noticed it only does it on some profiles & not others.

On the Printer control panel:
Settings
   CR Movement (carriage return movement)
Set CR Movement to 'Data' to have the carriage move only as far as the image.
Set CR Movement to 'Machine' to have the carriage move the full width of the machine.
You might want 'Machine' to give you just a bit extra dry time between passes.
Works well when your profile dumps just a bit too much ink down at a time.
You can also set the 'Overwrite Wait' to delay the carriage at each end for much longer delays.
You can use 'Overwrite Cnt' (count) to multistike, lay down multiple passes for higher density (i.e. for backlit) and use the 'Overwrite Wait' for a couple of seconds to allow all that ink a chance to dry.
The RIP always overrides the settings on the front panel, so be sure and check settings in your rip as well.
Thanks to Kenna at Custom Sign Center in Cour d'Alene, Idaho for the question.
