This section describes the replacement time and steps of ink packs.

•	Before performing work, make sure to read the safety data sheet (MSDS) included with the printer.
•	Keep the work area well-ventilated. This prevents fire, and stops operators from feeling sick from bad air.
•	When handling ink packs, pay attention so that ink does not get into your eyes or stick to your skin. If ink gets into your eyes or sticks to your skin, immediately wash it off with water. Failing to do so might cause irritation or light inflammation of eyes. In case of any abnormality, consult a physician immediately.
•	Do not disassemble the ink packs. If disassembled, there is a possibility that ink might come into contact with eyes or skin.

•

When refilling ink, use genuine ink packs.
This printer is designed to use genuine ink packs.
If you use ink packs which are not produced by the original manufacturer,

•	Printing might become blurred and the end of the ink in the pack might not be detected correctly.
•	Any problems caused by using an ink pack other than those recommended above will not be covered by the warranty, and repair expenses will be paid by the customer.

•

Do not give ink packs strong shakes.
Doing so may cause ink leakage.

•

Do not disassemble the ink packs.
A disassembled ink packs cannot be used.

•

Make sure to use a dedicated cleaning fluid (model No.: VJ-BIOINK1-CL880).

•

Before installing the ink pack, shake it gently.
Doing so will preserve print quality.

•

When an ink pack is moved from a cold place to warm place, keep the ink pack for three hours or more in the new printing environment before printing.

•

A dedicated S/C card is included with the ink pack for this printer.
If you insert or remove the ink pack in the following situations, information contained in the S/C card will be damaged and the ink pack cannot be used.

•	During printing
•	For several seconds after inserting the S/C card

Follow the procedure below to install the ink pack.

Turn the unit ON.

•	The printer starts the initializing operation.
•	After the initial operation is compete, "Start Ink Charge– > E" is displayed on the operation panel.

Press the [Enter] key on the operation panel.

•	"During Washing" is displayed on the operation panel and the printer starts ejecting the filler fluid.
•	After the filler fluid ejection is complete, "Wash retry? No" is displayed on the operation panel.

•	When performing Head washing again before filling the cleaning fluid, press the [+] key or [–] key on the operation panel to select "Yes". Then, press the [Enter] key to start Head washing.

Press the [Enter] key on the operation panel.

•	"Insert InkCartridges" is displayed on the operation panel.

4	Remove the ink S/C cards and ink packs (8 each) from the bag.

Insert the ink S/C cards (8 count) one-by-one into the S/C card slots (8 locations).

•	Ink S/C cards are specified depending on the colors of the ink pack. Match the mark on each slot with the color of the ink pack.
•	Insert the S/C card all the way to the end of the slot.

Insert the ink packs (K, C: 2 each) one-by-one into the ink pack slots (K, C: 2 locations each) on the left side of the rear of the printer.

Following the same procedure as in step 6, insert the ink packs (M, Y: 2 each) into the ink pack slots (M, Y: 2 locations each) on the right side of the rear of the printer.

•	Ink packs are specified depending on the colors of the ink pack. Match the mark on each slot with the color of the ink pack.

•	"Ink Refill **%" is displayed on the operation panel and ink replenishment starts.

•	Ink replenishment takes about 12 minutes. Ink filling operation and pause operation are repeated during the ink replenishment.
•	When "100%" is displayed, the ink replenishment is complete.

•

Do not perform the following operations during ink filling.

•	Do not turn the printer OFF.
•	Do not unplug the power cable.
•	Do not open the front cover.
•	Do not raise the media loading lever.

•	After the ink replenishment is complete, "SubTank Refill **%" is displayed on the operation panel and the SubTank replenishment starts.
•	When "100%" is displayed, the SubTank replenishment is complete.
•	After the SubTank replenishment is complete, "Media End" is displayed on the operation panel.

•

If the printer perform the nozzle check printing immediately after initial ink replenishment is complete, the following results may occur.

•	Printed lines become blurred.
•	The data is partially not printed.

In such cases, follow "6.2.3 Head cleaning " and refill a small amount of ink. Then, check the printing result.

If there is no improvement in the print result even after refill a small amount of ink, leave the printer unused for an hour or more. Then, refill a small amount of ink again and check the print result.

If there is still no improvement, contact your local MUTOH dealer.
