ISIS Print Manager Update
Information Regarding Version 1.10 - 05030301

The following is a description of changes reflected in the new version 1.110 of ISIS Print Manager, Mutoh's own PostScript-3 raster image processing software for Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP.

New in This Version

There are several new features in this version of ISIS Print Manager.

1. Added support for multiple printers. Up to eight printers can be set up within the Set IP Address dialog, along with an FTP user login name (for printers using the InterCon SEH or other Ethernet-to-ECP converter), and a description. Switching to a different printer now merely requires checking the Active check box in front of the printer entry.

2. Added a button to the toolbar, so that the Set IP Address dialog can be called from a single mouse click. This makes switching printers, or verifying that the correct printer is selected, much easier.

3. Added support for image files larger than 10,000 x 10,000 pixels. Now, raster images up to 200 million pixels, or up to 50,000 pixels on either the X or Y axis (not exceeding 200 million pixels), can be opened, manipulated, and printed.

4. Improved the robustness of the PostScript interpreter, allowing images to be rasterized (imported) at much higher resolution, depending on the amount of available RAM in the system.

5. Integrated the RIP engine dialog into the Print Options dialog, providing an easier-to-understand and use Print Options interface. There are now two entries on the File menu related to printing: Print Setup and Print Options. Both lead to a sub-menu for Mutoh Printer or Non-Mutoh Printer (Windows print driver). When "Mutoh Printer" is selected via Print Setup, all of the printer-specific options (including color management, linearization, media settings, print conditions, etc.) can be selected and save to a printer configuration (SK2) file. When "Mutoh Printer" is selected via Print Options, the selected image can be printed using any available printer configuration file. To print to a non-Mutoh Windows printer, simply select Non-Mutoh Printer.

6. Along with the Mutoh RJ-8000 Falcon-II, added support for the following printers:

  • Mutoh RJ-4100, 6000/6100, including Plus models
  • Mutoh Falcon Outdoor and Rockhopper
  • Mutoh Falcon-II Outdoor and Rockhopper-II
  • Mutoh Toucan-64 and -87
  • Mutoh Toucan-64 Six-Color
7. Added support for the optional hard disk feature on the Falcon-II and Toucan printers, allowing jobs to be transferred directly to the printer hard disk. This feature allows the name of the file to be specified, and allows the user to select Write-and-Print, Write-then-Print, or Write Only (as well as Print Only).

8. Added support for printing via Port-9100 (JetDirect or Raw). Although the default port ID is 9100, under preferences, any port may be selected. This feature also includes advanced error handling, so that if a socket closes unexpectedly, the user can recover without losing the print job.

9. Added support for printing via the PC parallel (ECP) port, including LPT-1, -2 and -3.

10. Added a Print Archive option to the file menu, allowing users who RIP a file to disk (as a .rip file) send the job directly to the printer without the need to re-RIP it. This allows print jobs to be archived on the client workstation, and reprinted at any time. The print protocol (FTP, Raw, or ECP) can be selected, as can the number of copies.

11. Added support a for RIP-Once-Print-Many feature that, when printing multiple copies of a job to the same printer, allows the job to be processed just once (printing the first copy on the fly) but printed multiple times. This feature works on all Mutoh printers supported by ISIS.

12. Fixed the Center Page feature, so that it works with all Mutoh printers supported by ISIS.

13. Added an Ink Usage Tracking feature that accurately calculates the amount of ink used for any print job. Under preferences, select Ink Cost, and enter the cost per liter, or per 220 ml cartridge. At print time, from the Print Options dialog, check the Report Ink Usage check box. After the job has completed, a dialog will appear reporting the exact amount of ink used per color, and the total ink consumed (including volume in milliliters and cost in dollars).

14. Added support for Platen Heater and Dryer controls, for the Toucan printers.

15. Added support for Microdot mode on the RJ-4100 and 6000/6100-Plus printers, and Falcon Outdoor, Rockhopper, Falcon-II, Falcon-II Outdoor, and Rockhopper-II printers. When this check box is checked in the Print Setup / Color tab, the next smallest drop size will be used for the selected resolution and printer model (consult your print manual for specific details regarding drop sizes at different resolutions).

16. Added a new High-Quality error diffusion feature, available for all printers and all print modes (excluding variable dot mode on the Falcon-II, Falcon-II Outdoor, and Rockhopper-II). This new feature is intended for high-quality 4-color photo-realistic printing, although it also supports all 6- and 8-color modes.

17. Along with the High-Quality diffusion feature, there is also now a High-Speed diffusion option, located in the Print Setup / Color tab. This diffusion mode is approximately 150% faster than the HQ mode, and is intended for banner, sign, and POP printing.

18. Made the linearization settings much easier-to-use. Now, linearization seed values are only required for the four primary colors: K, C, M and Y. Baseline linearization ad GCR values for Lc, Lm, O and G are automatically determined by the software. These values can be overridden, if deemed necessary. Also, improved both the Ink Limit and Saturation slider controls, and added an Automatic Ink Limit option.

19. Improved the printer configuration file format, and switched to an SK2 extension. This new format makes printer configuration files much easier to read in a text editor.

20. Incorporated a new band processing mode within the raster engine framework, to improve print performance, and allow printing of much larger jobs. This new feature breaks each image into a series of mini-bands, allowing very large raster images to be processed in a relatively small memory space.

21. Added a Scratch Disk option in the Preferences menu, allowing ISIS temporary files to be stored in a location defined by the user. This allows ISIS-related disk accesses to be made to a different hard disk than that used for the Windows paging file (virtual memory), improving overall performance.

22. Incorporated a new 16-bit architecture, into the raster engine interface to the ICC color matching engine, allowing all color management to operate within a 16-bit/pixel environment (rather than the previous 8-bit architecture). ICC profiles are now applied within this 16-bit environment, and color corrected data is passed to the raster engine at 16-bits/pixel. This improved color fidelity.

23. Updated both the raster engine and ICC color matching engine, to improve image quality for 2-bit variable dot images on the Falcon-II, Falcon-II Outdoor, and Rockhopper-II. This improves tonal range at both 360 and 720 dpi, while avoiding banding.
