AutoCAD Setup

Note: We support only Autodesk supported releases for specific operating systems, contact your reseller for assistance.

There are 2 extremely different ways to get the Mutoh Plotter to plot out of AutoCAD.

For simplicity, use the HP compatible ADI or HDI drivers offered by Autodesk whenever possible.

Or

For Windows 95 or older use the Mutoh Driver, which installs as a Windows "System Printer".

Note: Mutoh drivers are not available for all Microsoft Windows Operating Systems. See other documents for possible HP alternative drivers.

Use the following information to setup any model of Mutoh Plotter for the AutoCAD versions listed below:

AutoCAD on Windows NT and 2000

Plotter model: XP-510, XP-510R, XP-511

You must use Autodesk driver HPGL/2 either Draftmaster RX/MX/SX or Draftmaster Pro depending upon which version of Autocad you are trying to use..

Set Plotter to Default 4 and the Windows com port settings to 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, flow control Xon/Xoff.

Plotter must be set to COMMAND EMULATION - MHGL MHGL2. Check manual for Setup, Command MHGL Emulation.

NOTE:  If your XP-510 / 511 COMMAND EMULATION is configured for HP-758x then you would use the HP-7585 drivers.  This is very important!

Plotter model: AccuJet (Color / Mono)

You must use Autodesk driver HP DesignJet 600 for Monochrome and HP DesignJet 650 for Color.

Set Plotter and the Windows com port settings to 9600 baud, 8 data bits, No parity and 1 stop bit.  Consult the user guide for the plotter to confirm 'parity' NONE and the baud rate.

Plotter model: XP-500, XP-501, F-910, F-920, IP-210, IP-220, IP-500, IP-530

Model: IP-210, IP-220

These models may work with Autodesk driver HPGL HP-7475.

Model: XP-500, XP-501,F-910, F-920,IP-500, IP-530

There are two options:

  • You can use Autodesk driver HP7585. This option has the limitation that the Plotter cannot be shared.

XP-500 and XP-501 must be set to Command Emulation HP-758x. See your manual to Setup, Command MHGL, Emulation.

AutoCAD 13: In order to share the Plotter you need to follow the instructions in Autodesk's document "AutoCAD 13 Plotting under Windows NT" (Available from Autodesk's Web site or Faxback). This procedure is somewhat difficult and unfortunately falls outside the scope of Mutoh America's Technical Support.

AutoCAD 14: Autodesk now allows you to plot to and from a Network location. Consult your Autodesk Reseller on how to configure AutoCAD for Network printing. Note: To help them help you, always refer to your Plotter as a HP-7585 compatible Plotter.

  • Purchase Third Party HP drivers that load as Windows "System Printer" drivers. Make sure you know which HP plotter your Mutoh emulates and that the plotter is setup correctly to emulate that HP product.

In either of the above two cases, set the Plotter to 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit with flow control set to Xon/Xoff  (or default 4 in the XP-500 and XPC models).

AutoCAD on Windows 98

AutoCAD on Windows 3.1 and Windows 95

Plotter model: XP-500, XP-501, XP-510, XP-511, F-910, F-920, IP-210, IP-220, IP-500, IP-530

Links below are product specific info.
  • We recommend that you use the HP compatible driver from Autodesk.

    F-910, F-920, IP-500 and IP-530 are HPGL / HP-7585 compatible, use the AutoCAD HPGL / HP-7585 driver.

XP-500 & XP-501 must be, and XP-510R & XP-511 may be in HP-758x emulation. This emulation supports AutoCADs HPGL HP-7585 driver.

XP-510 & XP-511 may also be in the newer language emulation, MHGL2. This emulation supports AutoCADs HPGL/2 DraftMaster RX/MX or Pro.

IP-210 or IP-220 may work with AutoCADs HPGL HP-7475 driver.

  • It may be also possible to use the Mutoh windows "System Printer" driver. The driver is available from our Website or BBS by downloading the file ALLDRV96.EXE.
In either case the Plotter communication parameters need to be set up to match the Windows com port settings. For example, you should set both the Plotter and the Windows com port settings to 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, flow control Xon/Xoff. XP-500 (all 500 series), use Setup, Online, Default 4.

Plotter model: AccuJet

We recommend that you use the driver from Autodesk built in driver DesignJet 600 (for the monochrome model) or DesignJet 650 (for Color model).

The Mutoh driver is available from our Website or BBS by downloading the file ALLDRV96.EXE.

In either case the Plotter communication parameters need to be set up to match the Windows comport settings. For example, you should set both the Plotter and the Windows com port settings to 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, flow control Xon/Xoff.

AutoCAD on DOS 6.22 or older

Plotter model: XP-500, XP-501, XP-510, XP-511, F-910, F-920, IP-500, IP-530

We recommend that you use the Mutoh driver available on our WEB page. See plotter downloads to download our file ALLDRV96.EXE which when decompressed on your floppy or harddrive will produce our setup file DOSSETUP.EXE. It will place a new line in your AutoCAD plotter setup menu for Mutoh.

F-910, F-920, IP-500, IP-530 are HPGL HP-7585 compatible plotters and may work with that AutoCAD driver but you will want to use our driver.

XP-500 & XP-501 must be in HP-758x emulation. This emulation supports AutoCADs HPGL HP-7585 driver but again you will want to use our HPGL Mutoh driver.

XP-510 & XP-511 needs to be in the newer language emulation, MHGL2. This emulation supports AutoCADs HPGL/2 DraftMaster but you will want to use our HPGL/2 Mutoh GL/2 driver.

IP-210 or IP-220 may work with AutoCADs HPGL HP-7475 driver but use our Mutoh HPGL driver.

In either of these cases the Plotter communication parameters need to be set up to match the DOS com port settings. You should set both the Plotter and the computer com port settings to 9600 baud, 7 data bits, even parity, 1 stop bit. For all XP-500 series this is Default 3.

Your computer may require a 'Mode' statement which is the way that your old DOS prepared the comport for data to be received. Once the syntax is confirmed you will want to place this 'Mode' statement into your Autocad Batch file so it will load every session.

At the C:\ prompt type Mode Com2 96, e, 7, 1 when you press ENTER the line should echo back with a '-' behind it to confirm that it has done its job. Consult your DOS

Plotter model: AccuJet

It may be possible to use the AutoCAD built in driver DesignJet 600 (for the monochrome model) or DesignJet 650 (for Color model). The Plotter communication parameters need to be set up 9600 baud, 7 data bits, even parity, 1 stop bit.

The Mutoh driver is NOT available.
