No Response From The Plotter
In this case when you send a file, the Plotter does not respond in any way, i.e. it does not plot at all, and the Plotter does not display an error message or beep. In most cases this means that the Plotter has not received any data at all. (Keep in mind that if the Plotter receives any data, even data that is incorrect, the Plotter will at least display an error). If you get an error of any kind 'on the plotter' then you are in the wrong FAQ. Click your 'Back' arrow and consult "Mutoh Plotter will not plot" FAQ.

Possible Causes for NO Response From Plotter:

  1. The interface cable (between the computer and Plotter) is either defective or incorrect. If you need to obtain a serial cable, make sure it is a standard 'null modem' type (where pins 2 and 3 are crossed).

Note: Always buy a cable with 25 pin connectors on both ends even if you intend to use a serial port with only a 9 pin connector. Use a standard mouse serial 25 to 9 pin adapter to step down to 9 pins. The opposite cable and adapter configuration will NOT work.

  2. The Plotter is connected to the wrong port on your computer, e.g. your program is sending data out COM1, and the Plotter is connected to COM2.

  3. The port on the computer is configured wrong, is defective, or is disabled. Some computer manufacturers will leave a port visible from the back of the computer but will have disabled it internally to use the IRQ of the port for some other device. Consult your computer manufacturer for assistance with correcting this problem.

  4. The port on the Plotter itself is defective.

Note: After trying different com ports on the same computer or trying ports on other computers you may come to the unlikely yet not impossible circumstance that the plotter comport circuit may have been damaged. It is rare though not impossible for this to be the case. If you confirm that a computer port is a good port (using any device other than a mouse) and you have replaced the cable with the 'null modem' cable type mentioned above then the transmit and receive circuits in the plotter may have been blown out by some lightening strike or other 'surge'. Consult us about arranging for that repair.
