VTS-5 Video Tablet System
The
VTS-5 is a high performance pen input peripheral providing full pen-based
computer input and control.
This monochrome video tablet required a proprietary video card. This video
card came in two variations.
The first "OAK" video card incorporated the serial circuitry into
the same card that was an EIDE video card. IRQ and com port could be selected
and IRQ 10 with com 3 was the default. Early pre-Windows 95 versions of this
card had a chip set that did not use the address of the com 3 and 4 that Windows
95 later decided was the 'standard'. An 'upgrade' is available for a
fee.
The second "Atlantic Digital" video card also an EIDE card removed
the serial circuitry from the card altogether and provided a 10 pin connector
for internal connection to the 10 pin serial connector that was to be on every
motherboard. The industry did not agree on this as a standard and some motherboard
manufacturers did not include this 10 pin connector. In this case a second
card was required which did have the 10 pin connector. Any serial card
should do but again some did not use the same 10 pin "pinouts".
The video tablets were shipped with a Mutoh approved serial add-on card which
did have this 10 pin connector with the correct pinouts.
Troubleshooting is limited to swapping components to see whether the problem
is tablet, card or pen related. Repairs may be done for most problems
for nominal fees. Contact FinePointInnovations.
MVT-12P Video Tablet System
The
MVT-12P combines a high-resolution color display with pressure sensitivity
delivering a complete pen input video tablet system.
The MVT-12P required a proprietary video card which required an available
PCI slot in your computer. This video tablet as with all video tablets,
requires a dedicated serial port for pen operations. The MVT-12P did offer
slightly higher resolution but in actual field use the new MVT-12S was considered
superior by users. It has now been replaced with the MVT-12S since it uses
a standard PCI ATI video card.

MVT-12S Video Tablet System
The
MVT-12S combines a high-resolution color display with pressure sensitivity
delivering a complete pen input video tablet system.
No technical notes are available for this product but it does have an excellent
troubleshooting section on the driver CD. A dedicated serial port
is required as is the case with all of the video tablet products. Contact
